Best known as founding member and vocalist of acclaimed UK collective Guillemots, London’s Fyfe Dangerfield now presents his solo debut ‘Fly Yellow Moon’.
As part of Guillemots, Fyfe Dangerfield’s songwriting has already earned enormous critical and popular acclaim. In 2006, Guillemots received a Mercury Prize nomination for their debut, ‘Through The Windowpane’, and in 2008, it’s follow-up, ‘Red’, charted in the U.K Top 10. Along the way, the band shared stages with the likes of REM, Scissor Sisters, and Rufus Wainwright, as well as made a fan of Paul McCartney, who raved about them while guest-programming Radio 1.
For ‘Fly Yellow Moon’, however, Fyfe comes with a distinct new, unapologetically pop sound. Magnificently eclectic from start to finish, the record bridges from the warm and uplifting to the haunting and melodic. There are shades of Wilco, Modest Mouse, Franz Ferdinand, Damien Rice, and even The Beatles: dizzying highs, sombre lows, and big choruses.
The songs were written over a 12-month period in snatched moments after soundchecks, before nights out, and after moments of unmitigated lovestruck bliss. ‘Fly Yellow Moon’ is written entirely by Fyfe and produced in Urchin Studios, London.
The Australian edition of ‘Fly Yellow Moon’ will boast two exclusive bonus tracks: “Let’s Start Again” and “Awake, Asleep”.
